Purpose : To review our experience of ring annuloplasty and artificial chordae without leaflet resection in adult mitral valve disease

Methods : From January 2007 to March 2017, 34 consecutive patients underwent mitral valve repair with ring annuloplasty and chordal replacement without leaflet resection in mitral valve repair at our institution. Clinical and echocardiographic data were collected and analysed retrospectively.

Results : The mean follow-up period was 52.9 ± 36.3 months (range from 2 to 118 months). There was one early death and no late death. The actuarial survival at 10 years was 97%. A patient (2.1%) developed recurrent moderate mitral regurgitation during the follow-up period. There was one reoperation on the mitral valve in above mortality case. Twenty-two patients (64.7%) had degenerative mitral regurgitation. Mean mitral annular ring was 30.2 ± 1.9 mm. Mean number of artificial chordae was 2.1 ± 0.99 pairs.

Conclusion : Our 10-year follow-up show reliable long-term outcome of mitral valve repair using ring and artificial chordae without leaflet resection.
